Animal sexual abuse is on the rise – and weaknesses in our laws mean some are evading conviction.
People who sexually abuse animals are a danger to both animals and children. Research shows a clear link between animal sexual abuse and child sexual abuse. This is both a human and an animal rights issue.
Right now, the Crimes Act doesn’t clearly define animal sexual abuse, meaning abusers may escape the law. There is no evidence to suggest the link between animal sexual abuse and child sexual abuse material is limited to acts of penetrative abuse or intercourse only - and this narrow interpretation of this law could be allowing dangerous criminals to avoid prosecution.
By signing this petition, you are calling on the NSW Government to support our legislation that will close these archaic legal loopholes and ensure all acts of animal sexual abuse are punishable.
